Chapter 69
Evelyn's gaze slowly lifted to the security camera in the corner, its red light blinking ominously. Had she been under surveillance this entire time, or had she just walked straight into a trap? "Looking for something, Mr. Goldmann?"
A shadow moved across the doorway, sending icy shivers down Evelyn's spine. Her eyes locked onto Nathan standing there, clutching a different envelope with horror etched across his chiseled features.
Nathan had received the DNA report from Cornelia thirty minutes earlier. The bold red letters screamed 'MATCH CONFIRMED' - undeniable proof that Liam and Daisy were his biological children.
Six years. Six damn years he'd been unaware that he'd fathered twins. And fate had cruelly placed them right under his nose. If he hadn't investigated, would he ever have discovered the truth about their mother?
"You're quite the schemer," Nathan's voice was dangerously calm. "You switched the reports, didn't you?"
Evelyn forced her breathing to steady. Panicking now would be fatal. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Nathan advanced like a predator, his emerald eyes narrowing. "Still playing games?"
"Why would I tamper with your DNA results?" Evelyn countered smoothly, placing the documents she'd brought on his desk. "I came to deliver these files. If you'll excuse me."
As she turned to leave, Nathan's muscular arm blocked her path. His large hand clamped around her wrist, forcing her backward until the edge of the desk dug into her spine.
Evelyn arched away. "What do you think you're doing?"
Nathan closed the distance between them, his breath warm against her cheek. "What does it look like?"
"Have you developed feelings for me?" Evelyn's crimson lips curved into a mocking smile. "Falling for Vanderbilt women twice would be... unfortunate."
"I've already reaped the rewards. Why should I care?"
Evelyn froze at his implication. She shoved against his chest. "I don't have time for your games, Mr. Goldmann. If you're bored, call Vivian over."
"You do it."
Evelyn almost laughed. Mentioning Vivian always got a reaction from him. "Fine, I'll call her then."
She reached for her phone, but Nathan snatched it from her grasp and tossed it onto the nearby sofa.
"Nathan Goldmann, you—" Evelyn grabbed his collar angrily, but his smoldering gaze dropped to her lips.
Desire darkened his eyes as one hand cradled the back of her neck, pulling her forward. Without hesitation, he captured her mouth in a searing kiss.
Evelyn's eyes widened in shock. She pushed against him with all her strength. "Have you lost your mind? How dare you— Mmph!"
His lips silenced her protest, cold at first but rapidly heating up. The more she struggled, the more possessive his kiss became.
The taste of copper filled their mouths as Evelyn bit down hard. Nathan flinched but didn't release her, remembering how the mystery woman from that fateful night had fought him too, even in her drugged state.
Realizing resistance was futile, Evelyn suddenly went still. Over Nathan's shoulder, she spotted a silhouette in the doorway.
With calculated precision, Evelyn wrapped her arms around Nathan's neck and kissed him back passionately, her icy gaze locked on the shocked woman watching them.
