Chapter 247

The following morning at the Bureau of Justice…

Joel Watson handed the autopsy report to Evelyn with a grim expression. "Here's the full analysis. It wasn't suicide—she was already dead before she was pushed off that building." He pointed to the key findings. "Livor mortis patterns and fabric abrasions confirm she was dragged post-mortem."

A forced fall after death meant only one thing: murder. Evelyn scanned the report carefully. The primary cause of death was severe cranial trauma.

"Any traces left by the killer?" she asked.

Joel nodded. "Skin fragments under her nails. DNA testing is underway."

He studied Evelyn's silence as she processed the details. "Finished? I need to submit this to the detectives. It's officially a homicide case now."

Evelyn returned the report with a faint smile. "Let’s grab dinner with Sophia when you’re free."

Joel hesitated, then chuckled. "We’ll see. My schedule’s packed for the foreseeable future."

"Understood," Evelyn replied.

Meanwhile, at the hospital…

"Your precious daughter ruined my grandson’s life and now my daughter-in-law is dead! She’s cursed!"

Madam Victoria, freshly conscious, refused to accept reality. She raged at Richard, her voice shrill with fury. No matter how he tried to reason with her, she kept screaming. "That wretched girl is nothing but trouble! She’ll get what’s coming to her!"

Richard’s heart sank at his mother’s venomous hatred for Evelyn, but he was powerless to change her mind.

Just then, two officers entered the room.

Richard stood. "Officers, is this about—?"

"Are you the family of Yvette Warren? The autopsy results are in. Her death has been ruled a homicide."

Madam Victoria erupted. "It’s that witch! I know it’s Evelyn!"

"Mother, enough!" Richard’s expression darkened.

She scoffed. "Who else would do this? You’d defend her even now? She despises us—she’d stop at nothing for revenge!"

The officers exchanged glances. One stepped forward. "Ma’am, please calm down. We’re here to gather information about the deceased."

"You must investigate thoroughly! My daughter-in-law was innocent! It had to be Evelyn—she’s the devil!"

The officer raised a brow. "What makes you say that?" His partner began taking notes.

"She framed my grandson and threatened us! She’s ruthless—she killed her!"

Madam Victoria’s hysterics made it hard to discern truth from rage.

Richard intervened. "Officers, my daughter isn’t capable of this. I trust you’ll conduct a fair investigation."

"Of course. Given this lady’s state, could we speak with you outside?"

"Certainly."

Richard followed them into the hallway, discussing the case for twenty minutes. As the officers left, Laura and Vivian appeared at the end of the corridor.
