Chapter 123

Evelyn's stomach growled loudly in the silent bedroom.

Nathan, who was hovering above her, suddenly smirked. "Finally hungry? I thought you'd sleep straight through till morning."

She squinted up at him. "Since you've noticed, get off me already."

He rolled away, ruffling her hair as he stood. "I'll make you a midnight snack."

Evelyn blinked in shock.

'Did I hear that right?'

Descending the stairs, she checked the clock - only 2:17 AM. She'd been so exhausted from the afternoon's events that she barely remembered getting home.

The sight in the kitchen stopped her in her tracks.

There stood Nathan Goldmann - billionaire CEO - in rumpled pajamas that softened his usual sharp edges. The domestic image was so surreal she almost pinched herself.

He placed a steaming bowl of ramen on the table, followed by a mug of warm milk.

Evelyn approached cautiously, examining the dish. The broth shimmered perfectly, topped with diced tomatoes, ham slices, two golden fried eggs, and a sprinkle of green onions.

'This can't be his first attempt.'

The noodles held their shape perfectly when she twirled them with her fork - al dente to perfection.

She glanced up to find him watching intently, chin resting on interlaced fingers. "Impressive skills, Mr. Goldmann."

'Honestly, I couldn't have made it look this perfect.'

His lips quirked. "Glad you approve." After she took the first bite, he leaned forward. "Well?"

"Not bad," she admitted between mouthfuls. "Who knew the hands that sign million-dollar contracts could also cook?"

"Speaking of hidden talents," his tone shifted, "shouldn't that be your specialty?"

Her fork froze mid-air. "Excuse me?"

Nathan propped his chin on one hand, studying her. "Your mother knew Edmund Lincoln years ago, didn't she?"

Evelyn's eyes darkened. "You've been investigating me?"

"When you refuse to talk, I find other ways." He shrugged.

"Nathan Goldmann, you utter snake!" She nearly choked on her rage.

'This bastard's been digging into my past without permission!'

He chuckled. "Snake? I'm just trying to understand the mother of my children."

She gripped her bowl, tempted to throw it at his smug face.

'The word 'audacity' was invented for men like him.'

"Tell me what you want to know," he offered, "and I'll share anything you're curious about."

"I'm not curious about you!" The words escaped too quickly. His expression darkened as he suddenly advanced.

"Wha- Ah! Hahaha stop!" He attacked her ribs with tickling fingers. Evelyn squirmed across the couch, but his arms trapped her effortlessly.
